(NAASC)

The National Alumnae Association of Spelman College

is the official organization that supports Spelman College, a historically Black college for women, through financial contributions, student recruitment, sisterhood, community service, and the recognition of Spelman women.

The Boston Area Chapter was revitalized in 2006 and again in 2019 to meet the needs of nearly 200 Spelman alumnae in the region. The chapter sponsors events, engages with the community, and serves as a representative of Spelman College in the Greater Boston area. We are committed to informing prospective students, families, and the broader community about the benefits of a Spelman education.

The Boston Area Chapter also places a strong emphasis on building impactful relationships with local institutions and organizations. Through these partnerships, we seek to be a resource for the Boston community while identifying ways to celebrate Spelman alumnae who are making a difference in the area. We believe in uplifting one another and recognizing the achievements of local alumnae who serve our community. Together, we aim to celebrate, support, and inspire each other while contributing to the growth and development of both our alumnae and the community at large.

Support Spelman College and the Boston NAASC Chapter

Spelman College is a leading producer of Black attorneys, doctors, scientists, and politicians. Now, more than ever, the college needs your support—as an alumna or donor—to continue empowering its students.

Your generous, tax-deductible gift to the Boston Area NAASC will directly support our chapter’s programming and help revitalize our Blueprint Conference for Girls in the Boston area.

Many companies offer donation matching programs, which can double or even triple the impact of your gift. Be sure to notify your employer when you contribute to maximize your support.

Background
Each semester, our chapter receives numerous requests for financial assistance and scholarship information for Spelman students from the Boston area.

Future Plans
We are excited to announce the expansion of our scholarship program for Fall 2024. We plan to increase scholarship amounts and provide funds that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies for local Spelman students. These scholarships will be directly disbursed to Spelman College, ensuring smooth access for our recipients.

Mary Louise Powell Scholarship
The Mary Louise Powell Scholarship is named in honor of a beloved Spelman sister who served as a mother, mentor, and leader in the Boston community. We continue to honor her legacy through this scholarship, which provides critical financial support to local students.

Challenges and Commitment
Over the years, our chapter has relied on small online campaigns and local dues to support students, which has depleted our resources and limited our ability to invest in leadership training and social events for Boston Spelman alumnae. Despite these challenges, we remain deeply committed to supporting the students who come from Boston Public Schools (BPS) and METCO, ensuring they can attend and graduate from Spelman College.
